PLEASE DO NOT PUT RUMBLE STRIPS ON THE NATCHEZ TRACE! The same results can be achieved with a dense paint that does not RUIN THE TRACE FOR CYCLISTS AND STILL ALERTS THE MOTORIST!! Rumble strips effectively TAKE SPACE AWAY FROM CYCLISTS and INTRODUCES STRESS AND DAMAGE TO BICYCLES AND RIDERS! Rumble strips hold WATER, DEBRIS, ICE AND SNOW! All of these are BAD for CYCLISTS! Rumble strips are a WASTE OF MY TAX MONEY! Most new vehicles have WHITE LINE SENSORS that keep cars centered in the roadway! The new technology works well on a solid or dashed white line! There is NO NEED TO DESTROY PERFECTLY GOOD, SMOOTH PAVEMENT for NO REASON! If you want to make the Natchez Trace safer, just REQUIRE ALL VEHICLES TRAVELING ON THE TRACE TO HAVE THEIR LIGHTS ON, FRONT AND BACK! THIS MEANS MOTORIST AND CYCLISTS, ALL THE TIME, DAY AND NIGHT!!!!! OTHER COUNTRIES HAVE REDUCED ACCIDENTS BY OVER 50% SIMPLY BY KEEPING VEHICLE LIGHTS ON!
As a bicycle shop owner and Trace rider, I represent THOUSANDS OF CYCLISTS enjoying our longest National Park on a daily basis, AS ADVERTISED! I also have repaired hundreds of bicycles that have been damaged by rumble strips. I have also been personally injured by rumble strips causing an accident. Rumble Strips are a WASTE OF MONEY, DAMAGING, DANGEROUS AND A LIABILITY TO THE PARK SERVICE!! PLEASE KEEP THE TRACE SMOOTH AND RIDEABLE!!
